Services and Stops

Departing from Cork Bus Station in Parnell Place, Expressway Route 51 bus service travels to Galway and back, passing through Limerick, Shannon Airport and Ennis en route, before arriving at Galway Bus Station.

For local Corkonian and Galweigan commuters as well as tourists who frequent these two vibrant cities of heritage and culture, Route 51 is a vital service connecting the West and South coasts of Ireland.

Not only is the Expressway Route 51 service one of the fastest ways of travelling between Cork and Galway, it's also one of the most convenient, with 15 services leaving from Cork and 14 from Galway per day.

Cork Bus Station

Cork City Bus Station know as Parnell Place Bus Station is located in Parnell Place on the banks of the River Lee between St Patricks Bridge and Brian Boru Bridge immediately behind Merchants Quay main Shopping Centre.

Expressway Route 51 departs from Cork City Bus Station.

Galway Bus Station

Galway Coach Station and WebWorks is located at the junction of Forster Street, College Road and the Fairgreen Rd a short stroll from Eyre Square. The station major transport hub comprising 14 bays and is fully equipped with waiting rooms, and coffee shops.

Galway Bus Station marks the start of the X51 route.

Ennis

Travelling towards Cork, Expressway Route 51 departs Ennis Bus Station at 08:20 am with the last service departing at 9:20 pm everyday.

Heading from Cork towards Dublin, services start at 07:10 am with the last bus leaving Ennis at 21:25 pm.

The largest hospital in the region is University Hospital Galway (UHG) located on the Newcastle Road, wile the city and our services also cater to the Merlin University Hospital.

Shopping in Galway

Galway has a wide range of shopping options. Choose from Eyre Square Shopping Centre, Corbett Court Shopping Centre on Williamsgate Street, or Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road.

In addition, you can find an abundance of arts, crafts and artisan food shops in the city centre. The Galway Market in Church Lane by St Nicholas' Church, takes place every Saturday and has been going for hundreds of years. It sells a wide array of fresh locally produced food and crafts items.

Galway Tourist Attractions

Galway City is located right in the middle of the stunning Wild Atlantic Way which stretches all the way from Donegal in the Northwest to West Cork. The ‘City of Tribes’ offers easy access to the wilds of Connemara and the Aran islands.

In Galway city itself Spanish Arch, a focal point built in 1584 is part of the city wall and is located within the city’s bohemian Latin Quarter abundant with coffee shops, cafes, bars and unique West of Ireland gift shops.

Galway City Museum which offers a detailed explanation of the city’s history and hosts year-round art exhibitions. It also has a cosy coffee shop.

Galway harbour offers both a tranquil setting, as well as being home to local and international sailing events.

With three swimming pools, an events centre for concerts and shows, a playground for children and a state-of-the-art gym, Leisureland is definitely worth a visit and especially with children. Located in Salthill – a five minute drive from Galway City Centre, it is easily accessed from the city centre with Bus Éireann.

Galway Arts Festival: Every July, Galway comes alive as the city is taken over by one of the biggest arts festival’s in the country. Choose from a wide range of visual art, theatre, dance, literature and musical events and expect a fantastic atmosphere throughout the city.

Galway Film Fleadh: It’s one of the biggest film festivals of the year – and if you’re a film buff - you don’t want to miss the Galway Film Fleadh.

Cúirt International Festival of Literature: The Cúirt International Festival of Literature is one of Ireland’s premier literary events features a host of well-known writers and literary experts from all over the world.

Staying in Cork

As Ireland’s second largest city, there is always something to do in Cork City itself, with the city providing the perfect launch-pad to other towns and villages in the wider county.

Shopping

Cork is a bustling, sophisticated city with shopping options of every kind. The main shopping areas include Patrick Street, Princes Street, Oliver Plunkett Street and the North Main Street. Here you can find a combination of High Street stores, unusual boutiques, craft and musical instrument stores mixed with welcoming cafes.

For shopping centres head to Merchant's Quay Shopping Centre, Paul Street Shopping Centre, French Church Street and North Main Street Shopping Centre.

Dating back to 1788, the English Market, with its main entrances on Grand Parade and on Princes Street, is the perfect way to while away an afternoon. Here you can shop for all manner of artisan and luxury foodstuffs and admire the quaint Victorian architecture of this popular attraction frequented by tourists and locals alike. Be sure to treat yourself to good cup of coffee and a slice of organic chocolate cake in the market café on the second floor of the building.

Choose from a wide variety of diverse tourist attractions in Cork City. Pay a visit to Fota Wildlife Park - a 75-acre wildlife park on Fota Island, near Carrigtwohill in County Cork. The park is home to nearly 30 mammals and 50 bird species has been awarded ‘Best Family Day Out’ for both Munster and Cork on several occasions.

Marvel at the many fascinating art works at the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery. Located in the heart of Cork City, the Crawford Art Gallery dates back to 1724 and houses a wide range of traditional and modern art. It also has a cosy little café renowned for its good food.

Cork Events

The Cork Jazz Festival: Hundreds of musicians and thousands of music fans flock to the city of Cork at the end of October each year for Ireland’s largest jazz festival. Expect tons of top class gigs and a unique party atmosphere.

Cork Harbour Festival: Schedule your visit to Cork for the Cork Harbour Festival in the centre of the city for a weekend unlike any other. Catch the Ocean to City Race, sock up the atmosphere at Cork Harbour Open Day, or try your hand at sailing for the first time.

There are a number of hospitals in Cork. The largest is Cork University Hospital, located in Wilton. There is also The Bon Secours Hospital Cork on College Road, The South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital on Blackrock Road and The Mercy University Hospital on Grenville Place. Alternatively you can attend the Mater Private Hospital Cork at City Gate.
