Waterford Area Hospitals

The University Hospital Waterford is the main hospital in the region. Wherever you are coming from, it’s easily accessed with Bus Éireann.

Whitfield Clinic is a private hospital situated in Butlerstown, on the outskirts of Waterford City.

Shopping in Waterford

Whether you’re looking for designer brands, unusual boutique items or artisan craft products you can find them in Waterford. The city offers a wide range of stores many of them located on Arundel Street in the centre.

City Square is the largest indoor shopping mall, situated about two minutes-walk away from most of the side streets leading off the Quay between the Clock Tower and the General Post Office.

The Mall Shopping Centre houses the Dunnes Stores and Roches Stores department stores amongst other shops.

And George’s Court Shopping Centre is located at the heart of Waterford City’s busiest retail thoroughfares. It fronts Barronstrand Street, John Roberts Square, Georges Street and Meagher’s Quay.

The Saturday Market on O'Connell Street (parallel to the Quay features local cottage industries and is mainly a food market selling cakes and fresh organic fruits and vegetables.

Waterford Tourist Attractions

Housed in a stunning modern building which incorporates several medieval buildings and part of the city wall in its basement, the Medieval Museum documents Waterford's medieval history and contains many fascinating artefacts.

Waterford is famous as the home of Waterford Crystal and a visit to The Waterford Crystal Factory will enlighten you to how it’s produced. Afterwards, visit the shop and relax with a coffee in the café.

Visit the elegant ruin of the stone French Church in Waterford City dates back to 1240. Originally Franciscan it was occupied by French Huguenot refugees between 1693 and 1815 and John Roberts is buried here.

The Sea Safari Waterford is a great family day-out and a popular tourist attraction. See Waterford and its surrounding coastal area from a specially designed rigid inflatable boat, while at the same time learning about its rich bird and sea life.

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, why not head North to Glasnevin, and learn about the heroes of Ireland’s revolutionary past in Glasnevin Cemetery.

A trip to the northside is never complete without a visit to the GAA’s home of Croke Park – in the museum you can learn all about the heritage and history of our national sports.
